Counselling Psychologist

“A space to slow down, be heard, and heal at your own pace.”

Hi, I'm Ashima. I'm a psychologist based in Gurgaon, and I work with both adults and children, drawing mainly on CBT and a person-centred approach. But more than any framework, I believe therapy works best when it simply feels human, so I try to show up with warmth, curiosity, and my full presence in every session. Outside the therapy room, I'm someone who loves the slow, simple things: getting lost in a painting, playing a few chords on my guitar, curling up with a book, or wandering into a new cafe just to see what it feels like. I think a lot of healing happens in these quiet, unhurried moments, and that's the same energy I try to bring into our work together.

Starting therapy is a big step, and I want our sessions to feel like a space where you can slow down and be genuinely heard. My approach is collaborative and person-centred, shaped around what you need rather than a fixed model. I work with both adults and children, drawing on experience across psychiatric, community, forensic, and educational settings, so I'm comfortable holding everything from anxiety and trauma to relationship difficulties and everyday overwhelm. With younger clients, I also bring an understanding of learning and developmental needs into our work. Our first session is simply about getting to know each other, no pressure to have it all figured out. From there, we'll build a rhythm that works for you, whether that's short-term and focused or more ongoing. Above all, I want this to feel safe, non-judgemental, and collaborative. Therapy is a process, and I'll be walking through it with you.

I draw mainly on two approaches: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and person-centred therapy. CBT helps us look at the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and gives us practical tools to work with patterns that feel stuck or unhelpful. Person-centred therapy shapes the way I show up in the room, with warmth, empathy, and without judgement, trusting that you're the expert on your own experience. In practice, this means our sessions are structured enough to make real progress, while still being led by what matters most to you.

Outside of the therapy room, I'm just a human being trying to figure things out too, while enjoying the simple joys of life: painting, playing guitar, reading, going to the park, exploring new cafes around town, and sometimes just enjoying my own company.

Your safety always comes first. If you're in crisis during our work together, we'll talk about what that looks like for you and put a plan in place early on, so you know exactly what to do and who to reach if things feel urgent between sessions. Therapy sessions themselves are not designed for emergency response, so if you are ever in immediate danger or having thoughts of harming yourself, please contact emergency services, go to your nearest hospital, or reach out to Tele-MANAS (14416 / 1-800-891-4416) or the Vandrevala Foundation Helpline (+91 9999 666 555, also available on WhatsApp), both free and available 24/7. I'll also share these details with you directly when we begin working together.

The duration of the sessions will range between 45-60 minutes.

That's completely okay, and more common than you might think. You don't need to arrive with the right words or a clear starting point. Sometimes just saying "I don't know where to begin" is enough, and we can work from there together. Silence is also welcome in our sessions; it doesn't need to be filled right away. My role is to help create the space for things to surface in their own time, not to expect you to have it all figured out before we start.
